Bernard Perera reporting from Diyatalawa
The 13th annual Fox Hill Super Cross 2005 is scheduled for today at
Diyatalawa circuit. The meet is organised by Sri Lanka Association for
Racing Drivers and Riders in association with the Sri Lanka Army Motor
Sports Committee.
According to organisers 105 drivers and 81 riders have confirmed
their participation which is considered as a stage for the SLARDAR
championship for the year, 2005.
Last years SLARDAR champions Aravinda Premadasa (cars) and young
schoolboy Gayan Sandaruwan (motor cycles) have entered the battle to
retain the championship titles for another year.
Aravinda who was declared the champion last year driving his Subaru
will go flat out today to win in the Super Cars event. He will not have
his closest rival Dinesh Deheragoda in today's battle as the latter is
to skip the race due to unavailable circumstances.
But Deheragoda will be back on the track from next month to compete
in all circuit meets. In Super Cars category Aravinda will have to face
stiff resistance from Dinesh Jayawardene, Rizvi Farook and Piyaz Farook.
Dan Dissanayake another Super Car driver too will be out of action for
Fox Hill this year. Japan based Dilantha Malagamuwa will race here to
give the other drivers a tough time.
Other drivers who are making a bid to reach the top performance on
this track are mobil teams veteran driver Rohan de Silva and his
daughter Shehara who has been racing along with opposite sex to thrill
the crowd. Rizvi Farook, Dhammika Pieris, Javid Wahab, Sheran Fernando
are sure to give the motor racing fans their money's worth today.
On two-wheelers it will be the defending champion Gayan Sandaruwan
who is expected to catch the eyes of everyone.
Sandaruwan who thrilled the Motor racing fans with his magnificent
riding is expected to repeat his performances once again. He will
receive a fight from another rider Nalin Perera who had a good season.
Today's event is expected to be a battle among local riders as they
will not face foreign competition due to the absence of Indian riders.
C. Vijey Kumar and Rehman who have not sent in their entries for the
meet. Sandaruwan is eased a little bit due to their non participation.
All in all a day filled with thrills and spills could be witnessed by
the thousands of motor racing fans who are expected to wend their way to
the Diyatalawa track this morning. |
