Fake treasure dealer nabbed

The Kurunegala police are investigating an incident where three suspects are alleged to have cheated a motor-spare parts dealer of Pamankada by giving him some metal parts as pure gold from a treasure unearthed in Anuradhapura and getting him to part with Rs. 750,000.

This follows the arrest of a suspect driving a van at a checkpoint in Kekirawa by the Kekirawa Police recently. The Police had found Rs. 120,000 cash inside the van which the suspect had been unable to account for.

The suspect who was arrested with the van had on interrogation confessed that it was part of the money he and too others had taken from a moter-spare parts dealer after giving him some fake gold. Which they had unearthed from a treasure pit in Anuradhapura. Kekirawa Police said the suspect identified as Saman Wijesinghe (31) of Bulumulla was produced before Kekirawa Magistrate Nimal Ranaweera and remanded till April 25.

Kekirawa Police OIC D. D. Alahapperuma said the case was handed over to the Kurunegala Police for further investigations.
