World Vision donates vehicles and equipment to National Water Board
World Vision Lanka donated 21 vehicles and equipment worth of 4
million AUS$, to the National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB),
under the Ministry of Urban Development and Water Supply last week.
The NWSDB and World Vision also signed a Memorandum of Understanding
on the use of these items in the districts affected by the tsunami.
The donations from World Vision include nine water bowsers, 16 gully
suckers, which would be made use for cleaning sewerage pits. 18 Sludge
pumps were also handed over which would be made use of for cleaning
wells, 18 Generators for the use of cleaning contaminated water
resources, 100 Chlorination kits to check the residual of the pipe water
and 490 metric tons of Aluminum Sulphate for water plant purification in
the tsunami-affected districts.
World Vision purchased Four hundred and fifty thousand metric tons of
the Aluminum Sulphate locally at a cost of 9.3 million rupees as the
first donation to the NWSDB.
"World Vision was the first respond to a request made by us for
aluminum Sulphate", said Sunil de Silva, Additional General Manager
Cooperate Services attached to the NWSDB.
World Visions National Director speaking for a media interview said,
"we trust that all the equipment donated to NWSDB will benefit the
tsunami-affected communities.
This donation was made possible through our partnership with World
Vision Australia. All equipment are the products of Bell Environment of
Australia. World Vision Australia purchased them for Sri Lanka as an
immediate response to the tsunami. |
