New Wennappuwa postal complex stands as symbol in memory of Pope -

Minister of Posts, Telecommunications and Udarata Development D. M.
Jayaratne opened a fully fledged postal complex in Wennappuwa and
declared that the building stands as a symbol in memory of the late Pope
John Paul II.
The postal complex built at a cost of Rs. 6,000,000 fulfilled a long
felt need in the area.
Former Deputy Fisheries Minister Augustine Fonseka, Puttalam district
MP Viraj Dissanayake, Post Master General Shervin Senadheera were also
present.
Declaring open the complex, the Minister called for a stone slab to
be erected within the complex etched with the name of the late Pontiff
whom he described as a great spiritual leader. He said he was greatly
privileged to have met the Holy Father on nine occasions during visits
to Italy.
He said although he was a Sinhala Buddhist the late Pontiff occupied
a special place in his heart. |
