US Pacific commander calls on foreign minister
Commander of the U.S Pacific Command admiral William J. Fallon called
on Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar on Monday at the Foreign
Ministry Admiral Fallon who assumed duties recently is on a visit to Sri
Lanka, as a part of the US Pacific Command annual program, a press
release by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
Minister briefed admiral Fallon on matters relating to tsunami
reconstruction and rehabilitation activities and the proposed Joint
Mechanism with LTTE".
Referring to the US Marines Construction Battalion's contribution to
the post tsunami relief activities, Minister Kadirgamar extended
appreciation of the Government and the people of Sri Lanka for the
excellent work done by them. The minister mentioned that the US marines
were well received by the people in the areas in which they were
deployed.
Admiral Fallon will be visiting the tsunami affected areas during his
stay in Sri Lanka. US Ambassador Jeffrey Lunstead accompanied Admiral
Fallon to the meeting. |
