Death of former MP

Former Minister and UNP MP for Galgamuwa H. M. Lokubanda has passed away. He was 59.

Mr. Lokubanda entered Parliament in 1977 and served as Mahaweli Development Minister under the Premadasa administration. Prior to that he also functioned as Deputy Minister for Women's Affairs. The late Lokubanda was a popular figure among his colleagues and was known for his strong bonds with his village roots. Though he served as an opposition MP following the 1994 and 2000 elections a recurring illness forced him to bid adieu to his political life prematurely. His funeral takes place on April 13, at 4 pm at Saliyagama.
