Samasamajists commend President's proposal to end ethnic problem

A meeting of the Lanka Samasamaja Party was convened by its old
members who have been fighting for workers' rights since the key days of
its late leader Dr. N. M. Perera.
This meeting was held at Buluruppe in the proximity of Kegalle town.
It was observed that several past members who have been fighting for the
cause of the workers, though old now still vibrantly participating in
the activities of the LSSP. A large number of youth in the area who have
obtained the membership of the LSSP too were actively participating in
the party propaganda activities.
The meeting as presided over by T. Gunarathne, a veteran LSSPer and a
former Director of Education, Kegalle Educational Zone.
Several speakers commended President Chandrika Bandaranaike
Kumaratunga for her proposal to bring a solution to the ethnic issue by
providing a federal system of government for the North East.
The speakers claimed that too was a suggestion of their late leader
of the LSSP, Dr. N. M. Perera and they were of opinion that was the only
available way to free the country from the ethnic problem and to bring
about peace and prosperity to the divided country today and to prevent
further blood shed in this thrice blessed land of ours.
Former DE of Kegalle Zone, Gunaratne said selling of "Sooriya Mal"
should be extended to every nook and corner of Kegalle district as
numerous supporters of the LSSP and those old colleagues who admired the
policies of Dr. N. M. Perera were very keen in raising more and more
funds for investing in construction of houses for those displaced
persons in the North and East of our country particularly.
All the supporters present unanimously agreed to the suggestion
brought forward by the President of the Association, Gunarathne.
The President of the local association of the LSSP suggested that the
members of the association should meet once a month and discuss matters
pertaining to the strengthening of the activities of the LSSP.
The young members of the party expressed their desire to go to the
North and East to participate in the construction of dwellings for the
'tsunami displaced" without accepting any remuneration for their labour,
using the funds raised by the sale of "Sooriya Flowers" and this is
merely in commemoration of their late revered leader, Dr. N. M. Perera. |
