Scholarship awarded for old girls

The Association of the Old Girls of Matale Sri Sanghamitta National School congratulated the seven old girls who have been admitted to the Medical College recently, with cash donations. The present Vice Principal of the School Vineetha Mahanama Abeysekera, one of the old girls has raised the money for the donation by selling the copies of her book 'Paselaka Piyasatahan'.

She deposited the proceeds from the sale of the book in a special account under the name 'Vera Armond Scholarship Fund' in memory of the English woman Miss Vera Armond who was the principal of the School when it was a private school under the name 'Matale BMS English Girls' College.

It has been decided to give scholarships to the students qualified to enter the Medical College from Matale Sri Sanghamitta Girls' national School annually. The following old girls of this school entered the Medical College received Rs. 5,000 each out of the scholarship fund referred above. Miss Dhanushka Weerasekera, Miss Anushika Chandrarathne, Miss Ela Ranasinghe, Miss Suranganee Weerasekera, Miss Kumudumalee Bandara, Miss Maheshika Wijenatha and Miss Yashika Jayasooriya.
