Norochcholi thermal power plant work begins before year-end

Construction of the Norochcholi thermal power plant will commence before the end of this year under the 100 per cent Chinese owned China National Machinery and Equipment Imports and Exports Corporation (CMEC), a leading company in China.

The agreement to construct this power plant and to begin its construction activities before the end of this year was reached on Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao's arrival to Sri Lanka.

The Norochcholi thermal power plant capable of generating 900 megawatts of power is to be set up on the Developed Built Transfer (DBT) basis.
