Website for teacher transfers

THE Education Ministry has finalised arrangements to effect the 2005 teacher transfers methodically through the Transfer Board, in accordance with the National Teacher Transfers Policy.

Arrangements have been made to open a new website to exchange particulars among teachers seeking transfers, an Education Ministry release said yesterday.

Nearly 4,000 applications for transfers have been received for 2005 and some are applications received for the 15th time due to the back log of unattended transfer applications accumulated over a long period.

Among the applications for transfers, more than 200 were found to be baseless while there were some that deserved prompt attention on humanitarian grounds. It has been observed that some teachers have served in one place without a transfer for 33 years.

Acute shortage of teaching staff in certain schools and the absence of the correct category of teachers in some schools are among the major problems when dealing with teacher transfers. The Ministry intends to intervene by regularising the recruitment of science diploma holders, graduates and trained teachers, to solve this problem.
