by Panadura Central Group Correspondent A group of Sri Lankans working at the Bronllys Hospital in the UK has sent a 40-foot container of essential food items, clothing and vital medical items collected from Sri Lankans attached to the physiotherapy department of the hospital to be distributed among persons displaced by the tsunami. The Lankans employed at the Bronllys hospital has initiated a special project named "Sri Lanka Rebuild Project". As the first stage, they have sent this container of essential items to Sri Lanka to be distributed among tsunami affected families. Sri Lankan born Kumari Dias, of Brecon, who spearheaded the collection along with her colleagues at the physiotherapy department at Bronllys hospital-admitted to being overwhelmed at the response to her initial requests for items to help her disaster-struck homeland. A dozen of soldiers from the Ghurka regiment, based at Brecon's Dering Lines were set to help out with the mammoth task of loading the giant 40-foot-long container which arrived in the Colombo Fort recently. Meanwhile tiny tots at the Llangors Church in Wales Primary School added their own messages of support for children who have been displaced by the natural disaster. |
