by Anjana Gamage The world's first tea culinary will take place on March 8 this year in Colombo with the participation of well known names in international culinary arts .The venue is the Colombo Hilton. This was announced at a press conference held at the Dilmah tea factory in Peliyagoda recently. The Culinary festival an annual event is organised by the Sri Lanka Chefs' Guild Association.Partnering with the Association this year is Dilmah, one of the Sri Lankan main tea exporters .The event will present a challenge to the cream among the local chefs to showcase their talents and originality to the world on the merits of ceylon tea. Each culinary team will prepare a dish or beverage from one of 25 different teas. These include Dilmah's innovative Watte, Single Region teas, t-Series, Designer Gourmet teas and a selection of speciality and green teas as well. According to Gerard Mendis, the President of the Chefs Guild Association, culinary teams from 15 top hotels in Sri Lanka including the Colombo Plaza, Bentota Beach hotel, Confifi group hotels, Trans Asia, Taj Samudra, Mount-Lavinia, Colombo Hilton, Jetwing hotels, Holiday Inn Colombo, Galle Face hotel, Hilton Colombo Residence, Ceylon Continental, Aitkenspence hotels, Galadari and Tangerine group of hotels will participate at this event. A panel of four internationally acclaimed food industry professionals including the chef of Victoria Parliament in Australia will judge the culinary creations. The selected winners will get an opportunity to travel to Europe to present their Dilmah the culinaire range and skills at luxury hotels in several countries. |
