by Irangika Range and Anjana Samarasinghe

Transformation through the people, for people has become a necessary precedent for whatever organisational economic success in modern times.

This subject assumes the role of leading importance, in the face of the dynamic, constantly evolving and adapting environment in contemporary India.

In an atmosphere where India is fast emerging as a learning and knowledge society, the emphasis placed on people power and management of people as organisations greatest asset has greatly increased.

Speaking at a public lecture on transformation through people for people and learning through Indian experience, Chartered Marketer and Management Consultant, V.P Karunaratne said that the transformation is a radical change, which means creating value for people and creating wealth for the nation. It is function on technology, people and processors.

Business leaders have to be transformation leaders. The role of the transformational leadership is to envision the trigger to empower, enable and energise people.

Over 90 percent of Indian business leaders are really leading and the balance 10 percent is managing," he said.

The Indian corporate identity devotes the national fervour with which the Indian business leaders as well as managers and employees conduct their actualities, "Made in India" logo permeates their minds and hearts. This patriotism is reflected in each and every business venture in India.

India has a good reputation for its indigenous products and the country has captured by manufacturing Tata cars to England," he said.

"The country really values the Made in India attitude. They are proud to say every single thing from needle to satellite is made in their own country. Their brand name may be not Indian but their production is 100 percent Indian.

As a example, Honda is the most popular brand name in Japan but Hero Honda motor bikes are manufactured by Indians," he said.

Indian business leaders' experience has been heterogeneous mix of people through very difficult to deal, helps in the process of change. Bringing in people from organisations with different cultures can be useful, as long as they all bond with the basic values of the organisation.
