New program to develop village level entrepreneurship - Rohitha Bogollagama

Minister of Advanced Technology and National Enterprises Development Rohitha Bogollagama held a meeting with the Board of Commerce and Industries of the Central Province at its auditorium in Kandy.

The Minister said that a new program will be launched for the development of entrepreneurship at village level. The Export Development Board, The Export Credit Insurance Corporation, and the Sri Lanka Standards Institution will have branch offices at provincial level.

Problems in the field of export had been identified and a new action plan had been drawn to find solutions for solving problems and to take necessary steps to remove any legal barriers existing in this area of activity.

With a view to minimise the financial difficulties which the entrepreneurs have to face, are being taken to provide loan facilities at lower interest rates from the private financial institutions.

The need for joint work between State and private sector in promoting exports is greatly felt.

The Minister said that the existing disorganised manner in which the entrepreneurship works, would be regularised to achieve planned objectives.

It is expected to educate entrepreneurs on matters connected to financial provisions and technical knowledge through the "Dahas Diriya" incentive program launched by the Export Development Board.

The Minister further emphasised that he had been able to identify a large number of problems arising in the relevant sectors through meetings with the exporters and entrepreneurs and find immediate relief for them.

Development of entrepreneurship in relation to Gem and Jewellery, spices and industry is presently under study.

The Minister also showed his desire and feasibility to bring all the institutions linked to entrepreneurship in the Central Province under one roof.

Also he emphasised the need for the offices presently housed on exhorbitant rents to be shifted to a government building.

Lalkumara Gamage, Ministry Secretary, Dudley Jayasekara, President of the Board of Commerce and Industries of the Central Province and Rohantha Athukorala the Chairman of the Export Development Board together with several others attended this meeting.
