Singer Rugby sevens kicks off in Kandy by Kandy Sports Correspondent There will be a live telecast of the final three hours in the MTV Channel of the 'Singer's Circuit' inter club rugby sevens organised by the Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union (SLRFU) and sponsored by Singer Sri Lanka (Pvt.) Limited with Hutchinson Telecommunication and Crys Bro Chicken as associate sponsors which will be played at the Nittawela Rugby Stadium today and continued on Sunday morning at 8.30 a.m. This Singer 7's Circuit will be modelled on the lines of the Hong Kong Rugby Sevens and is being sponsored by Singer Sri Lanka and this inaugural event will no doubt lift the standard of rugby and make the sport more popular. The Singer 7's Circuit is a new concept in rugby by both the SLRFU and the sponsors to popularise this short version of rugby in areas where it is not being played. The sports fans in those areas will be afforded with an opportunity to witness this pulsating game of rugby sevens which is exciting and thrilling said the Secretary of the SLRFU Iswan Omar. He was confident that the objectives of both the SLRFU and the sponsors will produce excellent results. This Singer 7's Circuit will no doubt give a new dimension to rugby both in the city and the outstations as all the top rugby playing clubs will be participating in this tournament. The second of this tournament will be held in Colombo on March 12th and 13th and a third will be held on August 21st and 22nd which will be in preparation for the Asian Region IRB Satellite event in September, 2005 with Kandy being the venue. For the first time handsome cash prizes will be offered with the Cup champions being offered Rs. 100,000 as cash prize. |
