by Nadira Gunatilleke The Women's Empowerment and Social Welfare Ministry will take steps to ensure a better service to the public through child rights promotion officers and provincial probation officers, a ministry spokesman said. He said that motorcycles will be given to all child rights promotion officers and probation officers attached to the Divisional Secretariats countrywide. In the first phase motor cycles will be given to the officers in tsunami hit areas who rendered a great service during the tragedy. A cabinet paper will be presented soon by Women's Empowerment and Social Welfare Minister in order to confirm the service of 21 child rights promotion officers now working in the tsunami hit North-East areas. These officers, recruited in 2003 on contract basis are engaged in ensuring child rights and child welfare. They also operate as coordinators between the Divisional Secretariat and the Women's Empowerment and Social Welfare Ministry. |
