by Rajmi Manatunga Train operations disrupted by Monday's railway strike will be restored to normal schedules from today, the Railways Department assured. A Department spokesman told the Daily News that although there were delays in the train service yesterday morning they were able to run most trains on time by the evening. "The morning service had not fully recovered from yesterday's (21) strike and this caused the delay of most office trains. We also had to cancel around three trains. However, we hope that everything will fall into place tomorrow," he said. With the resumption of train operations, the Matara-Colombo train service also recommenced yesterday nearly three months after the tsunami waves destroyed the coastal railway line. The Railway Main Control Room said that seven trains (two in the morning and five in the evening) ran between Matara and Colombo Fort yesterday. |
