Yogavachara Rahula Bhikkhu to deliver Dona Alpina Rathnayake Trust Lecture

Bhikkhu Yogacachara Rahula will deliver the Dona Alpina Rathnayake Trust Lecture on "The Higher Evolution" - The Buddhist Perspective Bhikkhu Rahula hails from the USA and being a monk for over 25 years and was ordained in 1975 in Sri Lanka.

After living in this country for nearly ten years he returned to his motherland and is currently resident monk along with the senior Most Theravada Monk in the USA, Ven. Henepola Gunaratana Thera at the Bhavana Society, West Virginia.

Yogovachara Rahula is well known in Sri Lanka as a teacher of Vipassana Meditation and he gave many retreats at Nilambe Meditation Centre in Galaha, Kandy. He's the author of books on the Dhamma titled 'Breaking Through Self Delusion', 'The Way To Peace and Happiness' and the best seller 'One Nights Shelter' and the latest 'Traversing the Himalayas'.

'One Nights Shelter' which is his autobiography was reviewed in the Sunday Observer of August 3, 1986. In this book Ven. Rahula gives an account of his early life experiences with drugs and conviction that the materialistic outlook on life in the west was both inadequate and unsatisfactory which started him on his spiritual journey finally leading him Kanduboda when his spiritual journey found fulfilment.

The lecture is organised by Public Trustee, D. W. Abeywickrama under Dona Alpina Rathnayake Trust which is administered by his department.

It will be delivered on Thursday, February 24 at the department's auditorium at No. 2, Bullers Lane, Colombo 07.

This is the 20th lecture under this trust. The inaugural lecture under the auspices of this trust which was created in 1991 was delivered by Sir Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, then Vice Chancellor of the Andra Pradesh University and subsequently the President of India.

Some of the other eminent persons who have delivered lectures under this trust are well known scholar monk, Ven. Nyanatiloka Maha Thera, the distinguished Buddhist scholar and diplomat, Dr. G. P. Malalasekera, former President of the Pali Text Society, London, Miss l. B. Horner, the reputed physician, Dr. Cassim Pereira (later Bhikkhu Kassapa) and Prof. K. N. Jayetilake of the Peradeniya University.
