Pipe-borne water for 215 families in Badalkumbura

Women's Empowerment and Social Welfare Minister Sumedha G. Jayasena opened the Punsisigama, Badalkumbura water supply scheme constructed at a cost of Rs. 78.18 million. 215 families residing in the Moneragala district now receive water under this project, a ministry spokesman said.

Addressing the gathering after opening the water supply scheme, Minister Jayasena promised to take steps to ensure protection from future natural disasters similar to tsunami with the aid received from foreign and local donors.

Deputy Minister of Samurdhi Development and Poverty Alleviation Jagath Pushpakumara said that the govt would provide self-employment assistance to 100,000 persons through the Samurdhi movement to develop 25 Grama Niladhari divisions at a cost of Rs. 6 million for each division.

Moneragala District MP Udaya Shantha Gunasekara, Uva Provincial Council Minister Dayaratne Bandara and others also spoke.
