The school text books distribution commenced on September 2004. Of the total requirement of school text books for 2005, 84 percent has already been distributed. The delay in the balance 16 per cent has been due to the introduction of subjects such as History, Geography, and Civic Education as separate subjects commencing with grade 7 in 2005, the Education Ministry said. New syllabuses had to be written for these subjects. An additional number of text books had to be printed. Some technical problems faced by the printers in printing this large number of books also contributed to the delay. At a meeting with the private printers, State printing and the Government Printing Department on February 16, it was agreed that the balance books will be ready or distribution by February 28. |
