NCCSL seminar on FTA

The National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka has organised a seminar on the Free Trade Agreement of Sri Lanka with Pakistan on March 2 at the Galle Face Hotel from 8.45 am to 12. 30 pm.

Speakers include Director General of Commerce, K. J. Weerasinghe, Economist and the Executive Director of Institute of Policy Studies Dr. Saman Kelegama, and Past President of the National Chamber of Commerce and the President of the Sri Lanka-Pakistan Business Council Ghulam Chatoor. The Free Trade Agreement will come to effect soon after the official formalities are over. The High Commissioner of Pakistan will be the chief guest.

A total of 206 Sri Lankan products could enter Pakistan on a duty free basis from day one of the operation of the FTA. Exporters also could enjoy reduced duties on Tea, Beatle leaves and Apparels on agreed quotas.

Panel discussion

A panel discussion on "Business perspectives outside Colombo" .has been organised by the American Chamber of Commerce. There will be six speakers representing Chambers of Commerce of Trincomalee, Hambantota and Ampara and US aid team.

This will be a fact finding mission as the speakers are already working in those areas finding what has to be done and how it should be done. After the discussion the chamber will take follow up action to help those who affected by the tsunami. The discussion will be held on March 1 at the World Trade Centre Colombo. (RK)
