Amunugama denies UNP statement

Finance and Planning Minister Dr. Sarath Amunugama yesterday totally denied statements made by the former UNF Government that they received 4.5 billion US dollars at the Toyko donor conference.

"There is a huge gap between pledging money and giving money. At the Tokyo conference only a pledge was given to grant 4.5 billion US dollars to Sri Lanka during a period of four years.

However not a single cent of this money pledged turned into financial grants." A country cannot be developed just by giving this kind of pledges.

These pledges and slogans should be turned into reality.

There is no truth in the statements made by UNP Parliamentarian Bandula Gunawardene and the UNP that Sri Lanka received 4.5 billion US dollars at the Tokyo conference.

Dr. Amunugama said one cannot look at these things from a political angle. The UNP should tell the truth to the public.
