Lanka bags three worldstar awards for packaging Lankapuvath Sri Lanka bagged three Worldstar awards for excellence in packaging recently, conducted by the World Packaging Organisation (WPO), world's apex body in packaging. Worldstar 2004 was held in Mumbai, India. Euro Scan Exports (Pvt) Ltd with two awards and Standard Trading Company (Pvt) Ltd with one award made up the three winning entries from Sri Lanka, a senior official of the Board of Investment (BOI) told Lankapuvath.
Worldstar is the pre-eminent international award in packaging that illustrates the continual advancement of the packaging art and creates a living standard of international packaging excellence. Worldstar are presented only to those packages which, having already won recognition in a national competition, are compared by an expert panel of judges to similar packages from around the world. The first Worldstar student category is likely to be conducted in Sri Lanka or India next year, prior to the next WPO sessions to be held in Brazil in May 2005. Meanwhile, at the event conducted by the Asian Packaging Federation (APF) in Tokyo, Sri Lanka also won 12 Asia Star awards. The winners included Euro Scan Exports (Pvt) Ltd (2 awards), Standard Trading (2 awards), Mabroc Teas (Pvt) Ltd (4 awards), Universal Packaging (Pvt) Ltd (2 awards), Ma's Tropical Foods (1 award) and JF & I Printers (1 award). The 15-member APF consists of Australia, Bangladesh, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malayasia, Mongolia, Philippines, Russia, Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore and Sri Lanka. |
