Sri Lanka Standards Sinhala Character Code launched by Irangika Range Sri Lanka's standards system has been restricted to a limited number of items and it should expand to cover wide range of international items Advanced Technology and National Enterprise Development Minister Rohitha Bogollagama said. He was speaking at the launch of the Sri Lanka Standard-Sinhala Character Code for Information Interchange (SLS1134:2004) in Colombo yesterday. "Sri Lanka Standards Institutions'(SLSI) main responsibility is to recognise the basic requirements of local manufacturing and service sectors and introduce appropriate standards which cater to the international requirements. The Minister said the newly introduced Sinhala character code is consistent with the Internationally accepted Unicode system and includes provisions to co-exist with other languages as specified in the International standard ISO/IEC 10646 and in particular with Tamil and English languages."he sad. Chairman, Working Group on Sinhala Character Code, SLSI Prof.V.K. Samaranayake said this standard specifies an encoding system for Sinhala characters for information interchange for use in computers, communication systems and other IT applications. This standard defines codes for all letters in the Sinhala Alphabet.," he said. |
