Significant film with unusual ending

Kadhal (Love)

Screened at Cine city-Maradana

Tamil cinema has seen a variety of stories based on the theme love. Still directors feel there are more angles to look at this theme. Directors are very keen in giving unexpected twists and unpredictable endings.

These kinds of creations and innovations have been appreciated by the Tamil audience until these creators kept their inventions within the boundary of credibility. Kadhal is yet another such film which has given significance to reality.

Scene from Kadhal

The director Balaji Shakthivel's effort to give a remarkable and unusual ending to a known story should be acclaimed. Director Balaji has brought in real life characters through dialogues and through appearance. He has proved that to make successful movies glamour is not essential, it is the plot and the cast that matter.

Murugan played by Bharath is a mechanic who works in Madurai. Sandhiya is the only daughter of a Madhurai wine shop owner. She comes from a very conservative and narrow minded community who involves in rowdyism and is concerned a lot about caste and status. Rather than narrating the story, the film starts off with curiosity.

new life

The director begins the film from the point where a young couple flees their home to Chennai to begin a new life. Their flashback is interestingly fitted into the moving story.

The director has brought in real life characters rather than bringing in posh actors. The director has shot scenes in the city of Madurai to make the setting authentic. The get-up and dialogue bring in a typical Madurai milieu.

The screenplay is realistic and the director has focused on making the scenes as different as possible from the other films through setting, cast and story.

To make a film interesting, twists are essential and to invent erratic turns the creators may have to be cautious in making them different and note that they have not crossed the limitations of integrity. These turns in the story could also be done through proper characterization. I

f each and every character in the screen is given some importance, any change in the plot due to their change will have an impact on the viewer. Sandhiya's uncle who is portrayed as calm and considerate in the beginning changes as a cunning man who tactfully brings back the couple to Madurai.

There has to be a reason for the couple to be forcefully separated which in this movie is status and caste. The girl gets married to another man.

solution

Even if the turns are handled interestingly in some films, some directors slip in giving a solution or getting across a message with a sturdy ending. This is the real story of a man whom the director met in a train therefore the director obviously had no difficulty in giving a solution with a message.

The girl who was gifted with a perfect lover is also gifted with loving and understanding husband who has respect for her feelings and her lost love. Bharath gets mentally affected by the tragedy which separates him from his lover.

Sandhiya sees him in the street and is shattered to see his condition. She bursts out into tears when she sees his pathetic situation. The husband, who realizes this, takes the responsibility of curing Bharath to give him a new life. The director had met none other than this generous husband in the train.

The 'boys' fame Bharath has improved a lot from his previous movies and lived for the success of the film with all that he could contribute and dedicate that is whether through cast or dance. Debut Sandhiya has impressed the audience by portraying herself as a typical Madurai girl.

The comedian Arun Kumar, the little boy who works in the mechanic shed and other actors who have played the role of the relatives have done an acceptable performance by fulfilling the needs of their roles.

Music plays an important role in giving moods to the story. In that sense this film has got a couple of good songs. Kadhal is undoubtedly a success to the courageous director and its producer Shanker.
