Colombo Auxiliary Bishop Rt. Rev. Dr. Marius Peiris said people wanted to know why God allowed a disaster of the nature like a tsunami, which Sri Lanka experienced recently and query `where is God', but the real question that should be asked is what is man doing? Delivering His homily at the Holy Mass organised by the Lake House Catholic Solidarity, to commence the first working day of the New Year the Bishop said posing the question `why God allows such a calamity, He said that God speaks to us in many ways. "He whispers in our joy; He speaks to us in our conscience; Scream in pain and agony in disaster; God is a megaphone which raises the deaf world, he said citing one of the brilliant thinkers C.S. Lewis. Bishop Peiris went on to say that man, a creature of the advancement of science and technology was trying to enthrone himself dethroning God. This is what Adam and Eve tried to do. But man must remember that he is a creature and dependent and his days are in the hands of God, the Alpha and Omega, he said. The Bishop said that Sri Lanka needs healing. ANCL Chairman Janadasa Peiris while welcoming His Lordship said that he was pleased to note that Lake House as an Institution was proud to have religious organisations, Buddhists, Hindus,Muslims, Catholics and Christians setting an example of living in harmony and working towards the development of the land living up the ideals of each religion. Making reference to the tsunami the Chairman said that he appreciated the help and support extended by the ANCL Catholic Solidarity. Catholic Solidarity President R.S.A. Rangala also spoke. |
