The Foreign Minister of Ireland Dermot Ahen and his delegation of 18 members visited the Southern Province to assist in the reconstruction of damaged caused by the Tsunami in the Galle District. Governor Kingsley T. Wickremaratne organized and chaired the meeting at the Galle District Secretariat. Present at the meeting were the Chief Minister Shan Wijelal de Silva Minister Piyasena Gamage, Minister U.G.D. Ariyathilake, the District Secretary Mr. Hewavitharana, the Chief Secretary Ranjith Wickramaratna, A. Samarasinghe, Secretary to the Governor Jayantha de Silva of the ILO, Anil de Silva of the UN, the DIG of the Southern Province, personnel of the Army, Navy and Air Force and Provincial Council Members, Nishanta Muthuhettigamage, Chairman SPC I. Wijevantha and Minister A.G.C. Piyasiri. Irish Foreign Minister Dermot Ahen said "that like Sri Lanka our country also an island and the Fisheries industry is an important segment of our economy. He said that the government of Ireland will undertake to re-construct the devastated fishing industry in the South and North east and would closely work with the Government of Sri Lanka. Governor Kingsley T. Wickremaratne thanked the Minister and his delegation and Govt. of Ireland for their participation and contribution to the fisheries industry. |
