SLSI to launch Sinhala code by Ramani Kangaraarachchi The Sri Lanka Standards Institute (SLSI) will shortly launch the Sri Lanka Standard Sinhala Character Code for Information Interchange SLS 1134. Director SLSI Wasantha Meewaddana said that there are lot of complications due to the usage of various characters when people use Sinhala in computers. For example when a person e-mails a Sinhala document to another person the recipient doesn't get it right unless that person also has the same characters. This problem will be solved with the launch of the new Standard system, he said. The SLSI in coordination with the ICTA and Colombo University has initiated and standardised the Sinhala Character Code and arrangements have been made to launch a Tamil Character Code as well in the same manner after Minister Rohitha Bogollagama launches the Sinhala Character Code on February 8 at the Hotel Intercontinental. |
