Lull in trading at Bourse There was a lull in trading at the Colombo Bourse yesterday as most of the traders were out for the CSE promotion in the Middle East. The market took a breather when it opened yesterday a after three-day weekend. Market analysts said that the Lanka IOC shares were continuing to dominate the market and added that it is unlikely that the Bourse will go for profit taking this week. The All Share Price Index (ASPI) decreased by 3.07 points and the Milanka Price Index (MPI) moved down by 5.01 points. The ASPI which opened at 1574.66 points moved down by 0.19% to close at 1571.59 points while the MPI which opened at 2171.12 points declined by 0.23 % to close at 2166.11 points. Upward movements were seen in the Construction and Engineering and Chemical and Pharmaceutical Sectors, while Information Technology, Land and Property, Telecommunications and Trading Sectors recorded negative growth. A total turnover of Rs 150.7 million was recorded. The Power and Engineering sector accounted again for the highest turnover which was 50% of the total turnover. A total of 2139 trades were concluded. Foreign investors were net sellers in the market with sales of Rs 59 million as against purchases of Rs 48.4 million. The top gainers were Glaxo Wellcome (23.2%), Lankem Development (8.6%) and Pegasus (7.5%) while the top losers were Central Finance (39.8%), Tangerine Beach (13.3%), Lanka Ceramics (9%) and Madulsima Plantations (8.3%). |
