Pensions for workers who lost jobs due to privatisation by Anjana Samarasinghe The Ministry of Small and Rural Industries has decided to help employees who lost their jobs due to the privatisation of the factories which were under the Textile Department in 1980 to receive their monthly pensions. A Ministry official said "these pensions will also be granted to workers who hadn't completed ten years of service at the time of privatisation of these factories". "These workers have not received any form of compensation so far. We have identified 770 workers who can apply for this pension scheme. These workers will receive their pensions today from the Minister of Small and Rural Industries K. D. Lalkantha. The Ministry had special cabinet approval for the pension scheme. Under this scheme workers who worked in 54 organisations will receive pensions", he said. |
