Allegations of corrupt practice in parking complex tender procedure - Kandy Mayor adjourns special general meeting

by L. B. Wijayasiri in Kandy

Mayor of Kandy Kesara Senanayake had to adjourn the special general meeting of the Kandy Municipal Council held on Friday to take a decision on a complaint made by the Opposition that corrupt practice appeared to have been involved in calling for tenders to construct the vehicle parking complex in Kandy town at a cost of Rs. 600 million.

This parking complex project to provide parking space for 900 vehicles is to be constructed with foreign financial assistance. Mayor Kesara Senanayake presided over the special meeting convened to decide on the tender.

Following the representations made by members of the Opposition that they had reasons to suspect that there had been corrupt practice involved in calling for tenders the Mayor adjourned the meeting for January 26 to take a decision.
