News Business Features Editorial Security Politics World Letters Sports Obituaries | Ranil pledges unreserved support to President's nation building task by Ariyaratne Ganegoda Opposition leader Ranil Wickremesinghe has offered his unreserved support and co-operation to President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga in the task of rebuilding the country's economy and civil life in the aftermath of the tsunami disaster. He said he would also discuss with the President, the Government's action plan and the UNP's proposals for providing speedy relief to the stricken victims. The Opposition Leader touring the tsunami hit areas in the Matara and Hambantota districts during the weekend, stressed the need for speedy provision of relief to victims in the devastated area and also of the need to ensure transparency in the relief distribution. He said the UNP will be submitting its own proposals vis-a-vis the relief exercise to the Government after the President presents the Government's action plan. They would discuss both proposals jointly and work together during the next six months to rebuild the nation shedding all differences, the Opposition Leader said. Wickremesinghe who visited the affected areas in Tangalle and Matara also saw the destruction caused to the Kudawella Fishery harbour by the tidal waves. |
