German Ambassador says 'thank you'

The German Ambassador to Sri Lanka Juergen Weerth expressing his country's profound grief to the diaster hit victims of the Tsunami waves in Sri Lanka also thanked Sri Lankan Government and people for the assistance rendered to German nationals in Sri Lanka caught in the calamity in a media release states:

Statement of Ambassador Juergen Weerth: "I would like to express my deepest condolence to all Sri Lankans. It is with regret and sorrow that we still see the rise of number of victims and missing persons.

At the same time, in this sad moment I would like on behalf of my government and the people of Germany to express my sincere gratitude to the people and the government of Sri Lanka.

In the midst of a disaster beyond imagination which hit this country very hard, the assistance the Germans in this country and the Embassy received not from the Government alone but also from the people of Sri Lanka, was overwhelming countless citizens of Sri Lanka who were victims of extreme calamity themselves unselfishly gave shelter and food to Germans stranded all over the country.

Saved lives of so many and in some cases even drove hundreds of kilometres with injured tourists to our Embassy".
