"UNF drew plans to terminate the services of about thirty thousand Samurdhi Animators and managers. Their jobs are secured now as UPFA government came in to power," said Sabaragamuwa Chief Minister Mahipala Herath. He was speaking at a ceremony, held for the distribution of permanent appointment letters to 465 Samurdhi animators in Kegalle district, at the Kegalle St. Josephs BMV Auditorium. The Chief Minister added that last UNF government tried to disrupt Samurdhi Development projects, launched on a concept by President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga. "The decision to confirm Samurdhi animators and managers in their posts was taken by the President with her government. It was not a result of an union struggle," he added. "Why should people appoint a government which does not solve the problems of the country?" Chief Minister asked. Chief Minister Mahipala Herath said that the UPFA government has been able to employ 41,000 graduates within a mere six month time. Minister of Labour Athauda Seneviratne, Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning Ranjith Siyambalapitiya, Deputy Minister of Samurdhi Jagath Pushpakumara, Parliamentarian H. R. Mithrapala, North-Central Governor Dr. Jagath Balasooriya and Kegalle District Secretary Prema Dissanayaka also participated on this occasion. |
