News Business Features Editorial Security Politics World Letters Sports Obituaries | 400 graduates for Samurdhi Ministry by Uditha Kumarasinghe A batch of 400 graduates have been recruited to the Samurdhi and Poverty Alleviation Ministry to further expedite its national poverty alleviation programs to the rural areas to cater to the needs of country's low income groups, Samurdhi and Poverty Alleviation Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi told the Daily News. These 400 graduates recruited under the graduate employment scheme by the United People's Freedom Alliance Government to overcome the unemployment problem of graduates will commence their work from January 03, the Minister said. He said these 400 graduates would be attached to the following institutions: Rural Development Training and Research Institute, International Centre for the Training of Rural Leaders, Embilipitiya, the Department of Poor Relief and the Sri Lanka Samurdhi Authority. Arrangements have already been made to provide a special training to graduates, recruited to the Samurdhi Authority, she said. The Minister said the Ministry will seek the assistance of these graduates to socio-economically empower the rural community. In addition, the Ministry will get the contribution of these graduates as resource personnel to implement the national poverty alleviation program of the Ministry. Nearly 2,200 graduates are working under the Ministry as Samurdhi Managers. Therefore, the Ministry through the Samurdhi Movement has already provided solutions to the unemployment problem of a large number of graduates, he said. A special ceremony to welcome these 400 graduates will be held at the Public Library auditorium, Colombo on January 3 at 3.00pm under the patronage of Samurdhi and Poverty Alleviation Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi and Deputy Ministers Jagath Pushpakumara and Rohana Dissanayake. |
