Kadirgamar to visit China

Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar will be on an official visit to the People's Republic of China from December 27th - 31st.

During his visit Minister Kadirgamar is due to hold talks with Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing and other senior leaders including the Vice President of China, State Councillor Madam Chen Zhili, the Head of the International division of the Communist Party of China, the Ministers of Commerce, Agriculture, Science and Technology and Madam Deng Rong, daughter of Deng Xiao Ping. Madam Chen Zhili and Madam Deng Rong visited Sri Lanka recently.

Minister Kadirgamar's discussions in Beijing would cover a wide range of bilateral political, economic, trade, culture and educational issues as well as a number of matters of common interest relating to regional and multilateral cooperation.

The Minister is also scheduled to deliver a lecture at the prestigious China Institute of International Studies (CIIS) titled "The Peaceful Ascendancy of China - a South Asian Perspective" and meet with the President of the Chinese People's Institute of Foreign Affairs.

The visit is expected to further deepen and broaden the excellent relations between the two countries, the Foreign Ministry said.
