Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has expressed his deep sorrow at the loss of life and destruction caused by the tidal waves in Sri Lanka. A message released by the Indian High Commission in Colombo said that the Indian Prime Minister has approved all assistance required for relief work in Sri Lanka. The Indian High Commission in its message said that by the evening of yesterday one naval aircraft was to arrive at Ratmalana Airport with a medical team, Naval diving team, medical supplies, drinking water and tents. Today, four naval ships will arrive from India - two to Galle and two to Trincomalee, which will have naval teams to assist in the evacuation work in Sri Lanka. There will also be MI-17 Helicopters which will be used in the evacuation of marooned people, the statement said. |
