Prisoners flee as water pours in by Sarath Malalasekera Over 300 prisoners including remand prisoners at the Matara prison escaped from the high security jail after it was destroyed by tidal waves yesterday morning, a senior Southern Range Police officer said. The inmates took maximum advantage to flee the prison, the Police officer said. He was unable to say whether there were any casualties at the prison inundated by sea water. Southern Range DIG D.W. Prathapasinghe deployed a team to trace the escapees.
