N.M's service to gem industry commemorated

The staff National Gem and Jewellery Authority has organised a religious ceremony to commemorate Late Dr. N.M. Perera who took the initiative to establish the National Gem Corporation (NGC) in 1971.

This will be held at No.25 Galle Face Terrace, Colombo from December 28 to 29. Late Dr. N.M. Perera rendered an immense service to develop the country's gem industry at a time the future of the industry was at stake.

The setting up of the NGC was a tremendous boost to the industry and it also contributed to the export growth of the country. The National Gem and Jewellery Authority was set up in 1993.
