Bourse to take breather for Christmas The Price indices recorded negative growth yesterday with the All Share Price Index (ASPI) moving down by 9.8 points and the Milanka Price Index (MPI) depreciating 13.8 points. The ASPI and the MPI closed the day at 1,570.7 points and 2,206.9 points respectively. Stockbrokers said that the market will experience a breather next coming days due to Christmas holidays. There was foreign buying in to JKH shares and Rs 1.2 million shares changed hands. They said that foreigners were in the selling side at the CSE. A total turnover of Rs 479.2 million was recorded during the day. The Power and Engineering sector accounted for 49 % of the total turnover while the Diversified sector accounted for 34%. Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals, Banks Finance and Insurance and Motors sectors recorded noteworthy gains during the day while Power & Energy, Telecommunications and Land & Property sectors recorded losers. Foreign investors were the net buyers in the market. A total of Rs 264.3 Mn foreign purchases were recorded in the market. Diversified and Power & Engineering sectors accounted for 59 % and 40% of the total foreign purchases. Foreign sales amounted to Rs 72.8 Mn. A total of 3364 trades were concluded during the day with a share volume of 8.6 Mn shares being traded. The Power & Engineering sector again accounted for 59% of the total share volume. Meanwhile LIOC shares were heavily traded yesterday but the prices were in the range of Rs 45.50 to Rs 46.50 as opposed to Rs 54.25 on the opening day. |
