Top marketer as Chairman EDB One of Sri Lanka's top marketers Rohantha N. A. Athukorala has been appointed as the Chairman of Sri Lanka's Export Development Board by Rohitha Bogollagama, the Minister of Advanced Technology and National Enterprise Development. Athukorala has a double degree in marketing and an MBA from PIM university of Sri Jayewardenepura and is the country head for the global detergent giant JohnsonDiversey for Sri Lanka and Maldives. Athukorala brings to EDB over 15 years of marketing experience in top multinational companies such as Unilever and Reckitt Benckiser. He has held diverse positions in Demand Management, South Asian Category teams in driving regional strategy, Brand Management opportunities of Global brands such as Dettol, Category Management and Marketing Management positions before joining the SC Johnson/Unilever owned Global Industrial detergent giant JohnsonDiversey as their Country Head in 2003. In July 2004, he was appointed to the South Asian leadership team of JohnsonDiversey. In his tenure in the business world Mr. Athukorala has won a double 'Sri Lankan Marketing Achiever Award - 2000/2001 and 2002/2003 by the Chartered Institute of Marketing. Whilst in 2004, he was selected as a 'Business Achiever Award' by PIMAA, University of Sri Jayewardenepura. A Rotary GSE Scholar to the United States he has exposure to global companies like Federal Express in Mississippi, Phillips US, Graceland Inc. and St. Anne's Cancer Research Centre in Tennessee. He has also been the Sri Lankan delegate at the 'World Marketing Forum' of the Chartered Institute of Marketing in London. Rohantha Athukorala, also serves on the Chartered Institute of Marketing Regional Board of Sri Lanka and is a visiting lecturer for 'Global Marketing' to the University of Wales MBA programme. He is a writer to management journals in Sri Lanka and been a guest speaker at many a business forums in Sri Lanka and Maldives and University of Colombo. |
