School of Business and Computer Studies enters second year

by E. Weerapperuma

Gayan Perera, the Chief Executive Director.

The School of Business and Computer Studies in the heart of Negombo is the latest venture of the Camilus Business companies and it entered its second year very recently.

The Institute housed in a renovated century old mansion while keeping its pristine glory and original structures, has also put to further use the time tested floor tiles to beautify the floor and age-old timber for the stair case.

The School of Business facing the Negombo Lagoon has become the centre of attraction being juxta-positioned by the old Negombo Restaurant, Customs, Magistrate's Court House and surrounded by the churches of different denominations, state run schools and the Remand Prison, and is close to the sea coast at Negombo. If one climbs the stairs of the renovated mansion one could have a fascinating view - a good treat to the naked eye.

Speaking about the progress made by the School within its first year in operation Chief Executive Director Gayan Perera said that the section which started with just three students, has become popular within a very short period of time and they had just completed enlisting the third batch of students.

"Our coming up was not an easy one. We had to face numerous difficulties and challenges and we are happy as we now benefit from our efforts. Our best return is the complimentary words spread by the students in our school. Their word of appreciation of our efforts and dedication will bring many others", he said.

He also said the secret of their success was their tutorial staff and that he was very grateful to his two friends who had stood by him, giving him all encouragement to move forward." My Accountant S.M.A.Indika, hails from Ambalangoda and he is my school mate. We both studied at St. Joseph's College, Colombo. George Perera from Seeduwa who is in charge of the English Department is a tower of strength.

Earlier he had been working at the UGC and also one-time Principal of the Technical Institute at Orugodawatta. C.Kumar, who was a lecturer at the Peradeniya University is attached to the English Department.

Sunil Silva from Ja-ela who is in charge of the Management department manages studies in CIM, CIMA and Bank and Finance Unit. He is attached to the Union Bank as its Deputy General Manager Operations and Restructuring. We have a permanent staff for the IT Department and the rest are visiting lecturers. We conduct classes seven days of the week and have classes from the kindergarten to higher levels.
