Sri Lanka Development Emerging XI wins Ten Sports Trophy

The 'Sri Lankan Development Emerging' cricket team registered a (71 run) emphatic win in the third and final 'One Day' cricket match to win the series and take the 'Ten Sports Trophy' against the 'United Arab Emirates' national cricket team, in a 'Day Night' encounter at the Sharjah International Cricket Stadium played on December 5, 2004.

The Sri Lankan lads who lost the first 'day night' affair made a great comeback to win the second and third matches to clinch the series (2-1).

With all three 'One Days' been played under 'lights', the young 'Development Emerging Squad' experienced playing under 'lights' for the first time during this series. With low scoring encounters witnessed in the first two games the 'Sri Lankan' batsmen at the start of the series found the 'pitch conditions' different and hard to handle, with not much international cricket being played in Sharjah in the recent past, the pitches have been slow with 'low bounce'. However in the final the Sri Lankan lads rose up to the occasion by posting a formidable total of 222 on a slow and heavy outfield.

Accurate bowling backed up with good fielding paved the way to victory for the Sri Lankans.

The Sri Lankan captain Harsha Vithana was named 'Man of the Match' for his aggressive 68 runs.

After Sri Lanka posting low scores in the first two games the Sri Lankan fast bowlers Chaminda Vidanapathirana, Chanaka Welagedara and Chintaka Perera bowled magnificently during the matches, the trio bowled with pace extracting bounce from pitches which were not conducive to fast bowling while Nirmal Wickramaratne was economical.

In batting captain Harsha Vithana, Amila Sadaruwan and Damith Indika showed promise during the series. The 'UAE' team emerged winners of the ACC trophy earlier this year and were 'semi-finalist' of the Inter Cup played during the month of 'November', both these tournaments were ICC conducted cricket tournaments.

The UAE team comprised of cricketers mostly from Pakistan and India, some of whom who have played first class and club cricket back home in their native land.
