Rasika's paintings of female moods An exhibition of drawings and paintings by Rasika will be held at the Stairway Gallery of the Hotel Thilanka in Kandy. Rasika is herself an artist from Kandy who lives with the artist Rahju and their two children in a rural setting. Spending time looking after her kids and home, while developing her paintings, it seems natural for her to be concerning herself with depicting the moods and emotions of women. Using her intuitive sense of eastern imagery top portray the ascetic and the erotic themes inherent in Indian art, she draws with a bold line in a modern form while still retaining the essential gentleness of female sentiment. This creates an intriguing fusion of a contemporary expression of ancient themes. Themes which have a resonance today as we see ourselves in a cultural and emotional confusion. Out of this confusion Rasika seems to have chosen carefully the values which lies closest to her heart, and given them a voice through her own personal form, in order to create meaning and beauty. The show will be on from Dec. 10th to 2nd Jan. 2005. |
