News Business Features Editorial Security Politics World Letters Sports Obituaries | 30% increase in total budgetary allocation for education There has been a 30 per cent increase in total allocations made for the subject of education in the 2005 Budget compared to the allocation made in the 2004 Budget, said the Education Ministry yesterday. An education Ministry release said recurrent expenditure on school education has been increased by Rs.8,664 million in 2005 compared to that of 2004. This is a 28 per cent increase over allocations made in 2004. Capital expenditure on school education has been increased by Rs. 1,514 million in 2005 compared to 2004 which is a 27 per cent increase. The release said recurrent expenditure on higher and University Education has been increased by Rs. 420 million in 2005 compared to allocations made in 2004. This is a 9.2 per cent increase over that of 2004. Allocations made for recurrent expenditure for the entire education sector has increased by Rs. 9,084 million in 2005 when compared to 2004. This is a 26 percent increase. Allocations for capital expenditure in the education sector has been increased by Rs. 3,856 million in 2005 which is a 47 percent increase. |
