Indices down at Bourse

The All Share Price Index (ASPI) moved down by 9.2 points yesterday to close at 1480.31 points while the Milanka Price Index (MPI) moved down by 12.2 points at 2102.85 points.

The Hotels and Travels sector accounted for 25.7% of the total turnover while the Banks, Finance and Insurance sector accounted for 20.9%of the total trades.

Foreign investors were net buyers with purchases of Rs. 8.0 million and sales of Rs. 6.7 million.

Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals, Bank Finance and Insurance, Construction and Engineering and Stores were among the top gaining sectors while the top losing sectors included Footwear, Textiles, Trading, Hotels, Travels, Land and Property, Beverage, Food and Tobacco.

The top gainers included Chemical Industries, Ceylinco Insurance Company, ACL Cables, Commercial Bank and Browns Beach Hotel while the top losers included Abans Electrical Company, Cargills Ceylon Ltd, Alliance Finance Company, Associated Electrical Company and Arpico Finance Company.
