Over 300 cagers for Masters Games Over 300 basketball players from 50 countries will take part in the Sri Lanka International Masters Games which will be worked off in Colombo in May 2006. The majority of the cagers who will take part in the Games will be from the European countries of Russia, Hungary, Czech Republic, Germany, Britain, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Sweden, Denmark, Nowray and Finland. Over 1,000 soccer players from 50 countries in Europe, Asia, South America and Africa will also participate in the Games. The soccer matches will be worked off in Colombo and Kilinochchi. In addition to basketball and soccer 18 other sports have been included in the Games-table tennis, hockey, bowling, beach volleyball, carrom, badminton, swimming, golf, cricket, martial arts, decathlon, squash, darts, chess, dancing and windsurfing, athletics, tennis. The Masters Games are being organised by the Asian Games sports exchange program in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and the National Olympic Committee. Deputy Director of Sports Darvin Perara will meet representatives of the AGSEP on December 14 to make arrangements to organise the Games. In addition two representatives from the AGSEP will attend next years International Masters Games in New Zealand in February, 2005 to study the conducting of the Games. The Sri Lanka International Masters Games are being organised by Benedict Roecker from Fribourg, Germany, Maurice Jackel from Lubcek, Germany and Eva Sudek from Bonn, Germany on behalf of the AGSEP. |
