Don't fall into LTTE trap, says Wimal

by Ranil Wijayapala

JVP propaganda Secretary and Colombo District Parliamentarian Wimal Weerawansa yesterday warned the public not to fall into the trap set by the LTTE by reacting in a hostile manner to its provocative act of hoisting of the Eelam flag in the North-East.

Addressing a media briefing at the Parliament complex yesterday, Weerawansa observed that the LTTE's objective was to provoke the people of the South to a backlash like in 1983.

"The people should act wisely and intelligently without falling into the LTTE trap," Weerawansa added.

He said the LTTE's objective was to create a hostile environment in the country and draw the Tamil population onto their side and lobby the international community in favour of the LTTE.

Weerawansa said the JVP was in support of resumption of peace talks and discussing any proposal at the negotiating table to reach a fair solution applicable to all Sri Lankans.

He denied any JVP involvement in the incidents in Trincomalee and accused certain pro UNP media institutions for drawing a false picture against the JVP over the Trincomalee incidents. He said the UNP was keeping silent without raising their voice against the acts of TNA members in Parliament.
