TULF urges early resumption of peace talks

"We are quite sure that all political parties are well aware of the contents of the speech delivered by V. Prapaharan, the Leader of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam on the occasion of their Heroes Day, states a press release issued by the TULF yesterday.

" This speech has created a fear among the people as to whether another war would erupt particularly among the Tamils. We are all well aware that this country cannot resist or afford another war.

Under such grave circumstances the Tamil United Liberation Front calls upon all peace loving sections to come forward in the best interest of this country and the people as a whole with compromise with disregard to whatever superior or inferior complex they think that they possess thus exhorting the parties concerned to come to the negotiating table to find a peaceful solution to the ethnic conflict which is prevailing for decades and bring forward light of peace in this country which is straggling in pith darkness for the last more than half a century.

"At this juncture the TULF most earnestly calls upon particularly the ruling party and its alliance the JVP to put aside their false pride and persistence to come forward to accomplish the aspirations and expectations of all the people of this country".

"It is needless to highlight the unbearable and untold hardships experienced by the Tamil population of this country with uncertainty, suspicion and fear. So it is high time for this ruling alliance to act in such a way to evolve a situation to relieve such long mental agony of the Tamil population thus creating a peaceful atmosphere for these people to live in their own soil fulfilling their aspirations with peace of mind and without hindrance or unwarranted pressure from any source.

"So, it is considered as the bounden duty of the Alliance to safeguard all people mainly in finding a peaceful solution to the ethnic conflict which is continuing the cause of instability and peacelessness in this beautiful island.

"Hence it is the concurrent contention of all peace loving people of this country that time is best opportune to arrive at a final and favourable solution to the long prevailing ethnic conflict which has to be well utilized by the ruling alliance without missing this best opportunity and therefore it is the entire responsibility of the ruling alliance. "It is a well-known fact that numerous lives were lost during the warring period and eruption of another war would culminate in converting this country to a state of grave yard.

"Hence it is high time for all peace loving people to come forward and get together to find a peaceful and acceptable solution to this problem with due respect to democratic concept with humanitarian motive.

"Mr. Prapaharan has disclosed his distrust on the ruling alliance in his speech. He further added that they have expressed what is necessary and the rest is that of the ruling parties.

"So, the TULF wish to conclude with sincere exhortation to the ruling alliance to come forward to act urgently to find a lasting solution to this ethnic problem without dragging on any further."
