Resolution of Indo-Pak issues vital to South Asia's prosperity: Musharraf ISLAMABAD, Sunday (Xinhua) Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf said the resolution of all outstanding issues between India and Pakistan including the core Kashmir dispute is important to the prosperity of South Asia, according to the Associated Press of Pakistan. Speaking at the inaugural session of the fourth South Asian Free Media Conference in Lahore, capital of eastern Punjab province, Musharraf said unlike other regions of Asia, South Asia does not witness much intra-regional economic activity mainly due to the Indo-Pak tension. "Both India and Pakistan will have to reconcile to bring peace and promote intra-regional cooperation," he said. Talking about his recent Kashmir proposals, Musharraf said he has never put forward any "solution" of the issue. "I have only identified geographical, ethnic and religious realities in Kashmir, just setting a direction to discuss different options," he observed. He categorically stated that Pakistan has not left its stated position on Kashmir and that it will not do so unilaterally. He said that both India and Pakistan should go beyond their stated positions on Kashmir to help resolve this outstanding problem. Musharraf stressed that confidence building measures (CBMs) and the dialogue between India and Pakistan should go in tandem. " |
